Pawn Shop

In our current economy people are likely looking for ways not only to cut costs but also to bring in more cash. Heck, that latter option is what led me to write my book Toss, Keep, Sell: The Suddenly Frugal Guide to Cleaning Out the Clutter and Cashing In. The book is all about how you can get cash for your clutter. One option I have never tried is going to a pawn shop. I’ve watched plenty of episodes of the TV show “Pawn Stars” and know that plenty of people try to get cash for their stuff this way. Heck, it’s become such a popular approach—at least in reality TV land—that there are at least three shows that focus on this money-making method. Besides the History Channel show, there is the TruTV show called “Hardcore Pawn” and the Disney show “Kiddie Pawn.” (Really, show producers, you have to do a play on words with all these show titles that border on racy?)Whether or not you have a valuable in your attic or garage, or if you’re just curious about how this whole pawn thing works, here are 10 tips to pawn like a pawn star, courtesy of Todd Hills, President and CEO of an online pawn shop that specializes in jewelry and watches.
